About Women Beyond Barriers

Women Beyond Barriers is a women’s Organization founded by women living with HIV/AIDS, to bring about practical inclusive development through promoting inclusive policies, legislation and practices. Women living with HIV/AIDS face a range of interconnected challenges that affect their health, social wellbeing, economic status, and rights. These challenges stem from stigma and discrimination, economic inequality, health system barriers, and gender norms, among other factors. Women in Tanzania often face unequal power relations and limited control over their sexual and reproductive health, which increases both their risk of HIV infection and the difficulties they face living with it. Factors like economic dependence on male partners and limited decision-making power undermine women’s ability to protect themselves or negotiate safer sex. WOBEBA is focused in empowering the voiceless women and girls especially women living with HIV/AIDS with timely information, skills, tools, and economic resources to champion for their rights, lead the development of their own communities and realize their full potential. The idea is to create spaces where women and girls, being the intended beneficiaries, feel comfortable and enjoy the freedom to express themselves without the fear of judgment or harm, intimidation, threats, stigma and discrimination.
